Scientists <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1007\/s13593-018-0540-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Xie et al.<\/a> show that the desert-like, non-arable land can be developed by building \u2018clusters\u2019 of solar-energy greenhouses in which land productivity is higher and crop water use efficiency greater than in traditional open-field, irrigated cultivation systems.
